The Dying of the light

This series continues my exploration of light, decay, and the fragile balance between illumination and shadow. Each image is shot in square format, chosen for its ability to focus attention on the center of the frame and provide a neutral perspective on all sides. This format allows viewers to engage fully with the image and its participants without the distraction of border tension, directing focus toward the entire composition.
Developed using ritualistic and romantic plants such as Origanum dikatumus from Crete, rose petals, and Cannabis, the negatives were solarized by hand, introducing the unpredictable nature of both the Clayden effect and Sabbatier effect. These processes allowed the light to degrade and alter the photographic material, transforming light itself into both a subject and an agent of its own decay.
The series is printed by UV light, metaphorically curing the images with the same force that initially caused their decay. The deep blacks in the prints reflect light in unexpected ways, enhancing the tension between darkness and illumination.
"In the Black of Light" explores the unseen and impermanent, drawing from the shadows of my research into light’s elusive, transformative nature, and capturing the delicate balance between presence and absence.
